Jake Bergeron and family at their straw bale homestead in Prince Edward County
About Jake

Meet Jake Bergeron, Prince Edward County REALTOR

A lifelong County connection, fifteen years in the trades, and a full decade of putting clients first. Here's the story behind the name on the sign.

Jake didn't grow up in Prince Edward County by birth. His family moved here from the GTA when he was a young boy, and it turned out to be the best decision they ever made. This is the honest version of how a kid who wasn't sure about the move ended up spending his whole life here, and why he's spent the last decade helping other people find their place in the County too.

How did Jake end up in Prince Edward County real estate?

Jake's family moved to Prince Edward County from the GTA when he was a young boy, into an old century home down a long driveway surrounded by cornfields. His honest first reaction was dread, not the postcard version of the story. It didn't take long to turn around. Within a few years he was a full country kid who wanted nothing more than to be outside exploring. A few years after the move, his father took on animal control work for several of the surrounding townships, which in time grew into the family's own animal sanctuary, home to lions, tigers, jaguars, wolves, and other exotic animals. Growing up around it gave Jake a deep respect for rural life, nature, and the land itself.

In his twenties, Jake joined the Toronto Local 721 Ironworkers' Union, completed his apprenticeship, and became a Journeyman. The trade took him to many new places, and even as far as Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, where he worked on one of his last big jobs building a new power plant in 2014. It was a visit home during that stretch that changed everything: he met his wife, Janna, and realized quickly that he wanted roots closer to home instead of a career that kept him on the road.

That same hands-on instinct shows up everywhere in his life now. He and Janna built a straw bale homestead from scratch, her idea originally, drawn from her own years of research into eco-builds after moving to the County herself in 2008. She runs a short-term accommodation on the property that stays booked solid year-round, and the two of them homeschool their three children.

Jake has been a full-time, full-service REALTOR® since 2016.

Experience

What does Jake specialize in?

Jake's real edge shows up in two places most agents don't have firsthand experience with. Rural properties without municipal water or sewer: he grew up in a century home on well and septic, so he understands that day-to-day reality from living it, not just from a listing sheet. And raw land purchased to build on: he and Janna built their straw bale home from scratch on a blank piece of land, so he knows exactly what a private build actually demands, and where it typically gets hard.

Life in the County

What does Jake do outside of real estate?

Jake and Janna keep permaculture gardens on their 5 acre property built over the last few years around self-sufficiency and sustainable living: layered ground cover, fruiting shrubs, and an orchard of apple, pear, peach, and cherry trees alongside berries, including a Saskatoon berry planting, a small nod to Jake's time working out west. He recently took up Brazilian jiu-jitsu alongside Janna, following his daughter (training three years and a strong grappler) and his two younger sons into the sport.

Balancing homeschooling three kids with running the STA and a real estate career isn't always easy, but it buys the family a screen-free, nature-first childhood and a lot of time together, which is the actual point.

As a teenager, Jake spent countless hours exploring the county and surrounding region. One of his favorite spots is the far southwestern tip near Point Petre, once home to an old military base whose access roads have long since grown over. He remembers it as a magical, mostly forgotten corner of the County, the kind of local knowledge that only comes from actually growing up here.
